Meta Tags 101

MetaTag information!

Meta tags provide a set of information that is placed into the "HEAD" area of your webpages. They won't shoot a page to the top of the search-engine listings by themselves, but they are a potentially helpful piece of the equation. Below is a quick breakdown of the most important meta tags. Title Tag
The title tag will be visible in the top left corner of the browser in which a potential customer views your site. It should contain a phrase highly relevant to your business.

Robots Tag
The robots tag specifies whether you want the search-engine spiders to index a page. Here are four examples:

Description Tag
The description tag supplies a description of each page to the various search-engine spiders that constantly crawl the World Wide Web. Some search-engine spiders will use this tag to describe your site in their listings.

Keywords Tag
The keywords tag allows you to supply your main keyword or phrases as well as additional keywords and phrases. The search engine spiders will pick these words up while crawling your site along with your body text. This tag will not be seen by anyone.
