Directory Listings are also important!

Directory Listings are found in DMOZ.org, Yahoo.com and Looksmart.com.

DMOZ, also known as the Open Directory Project, is the first one we would recommend submitting your site to. It is used by Google.com as well as other search engines in ranking your site. Submitting to DMOZ.org is painless. (DMOZ, though, in most cases is a little slow to add pages.)

Yahoo.com charges a fee, which is due before you can submit your site. Yahoo has the option to not include your site and not refund the fee, so make sure your site is directory-worthy before submitting! Make sure all your pages are finished and uploaded; Yahoo's editors do not like to include sites labeled "under construction."

Looksmart.com is the least important of the three, but it can drive a nice amount of traffic your way. It, too, is a pay-per-click directory, so the traffic will not be free.
